Search Engine Optimization or SEO is one of the widely used form of Internet marketing techniques in the market. What made it popular was because of its success in increasing the chances of their websites getting visited through search engines. However, like most other popular Internet marketing techniques, SEO has also been known for its adverse methods which are commonly known in the field as Black-Hat SEO or spamdexing.

Black-Hat SEO

Spamdexing involves a number of methods, such as repeating unrelated phrases, to manipulate the relevancy or prominence of resources indexed by a search engine, in a manner inconsistent with the purpose of the indexing system. Techniques used in spamdexing are usually known as Black-Hat SEO.

Similar to White-Hat SEO, Black-Hat SEO also involves techniques used in both on-page and off-page factors. Here are some of the techniques used today in on-page Black-Hat SEO:

Scraper site. A scraper site is a website that copies all of its content from other websites using web scraping. In the last few years scraper sites have proliferated at an amazing rate for spamming search engines. According to SEO Philippines experts, open content are a common source of material for scraper sites.

Article spinning. This works by rewriting existing articles, or parts of articles, and replacing elements to avoid being penalized in the Search Engine Results pages (SERP) for using duplicate content.

Other than on-page, Black-Hat SEO techniques are also actively used for off-page factors. Modern off-page techniques used for Black-Hat SEO include:

Buying of expired domains. by rewriting existing articles, or parts of articles, and replacing elements to avoid being penalized in the Search Engine Results pages (SERP) for using duplicate content.

Blog spamming. This is the placing or solicitation of links randomly on other sites, placing a desired keyword into the hyperlinked text of the inbound link. According to SEO Philippines experts, guest books, forums, blogs, and any site that accepts visitors' comments are particular targets and are often victims of drive-by spamming.

Cookie stuffing. This involves placing an affiliate tracking cookie on a website visitor's computer without their knowledge, which will then generate revenue for the person doing the cookie stuffing.

Hidden links. Putting links where visitors will not see them in order to increase link popularity. Highlighted link text can help rank a webpage higher for matching that phrase.

Cloaking is another type of Black-Hat SEO. According to SEO Philippines experts, it refers to any of several means to serve a page to the search-engine spider that is different from that seen by human users. It can be an attempt to mislead search engines regarding the content on a particular web site.

Blackhat SEO techniques are used by some SEO professionals in the hope of getting quicker results from search engine placement and ultimately traffic. Unfortunately, Search engine algorithms change all the time and are always updated to counter and recognise such attempts to manipulate search engines to gain more traffic. Results can be disastrous if caught out.
