Spanish gambling regulator Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) published a resolution in the Official State Gazzete to inform punters that they are no longer allowed to place wagers on sports events involving minors. Likewise, licensed bookmakers in Spain are prohibited from accepting wagers on sports events with underage participants. The prohibition came into force on July 23rd, 2019.
According to DGOJ representatives, the ban was born out of necessity to protect the vulnerable part of the population and establish “clear separation” between minors and the gambling industry.
The other reason DGOJ pointed was its desire to ensure the healthy participation of kids in sports events and avoidance of situations where a kid is told what to do to contribute to the loss of the team and ensure a winning result for the bettor.
